The Laurens County Revolutionary War 250th Committee (LC250), in partnership with The South Carolina Revolutionary War 250th Commission (SC250), and The Laurens County Chamber of Commerce (LCCC), recently announced the winners of the essay and poster competitions.
These competitions were open to all public, private, and home school students in Laurens County and aimed to engage students in exploring and celebrating the County’s significant role in the American Revolutionary War.
The essay competition, “Laurens County Contributions to Revolutionary War Victory,” invited students to research and reflect on the county’s contributions to the war effort. The winning essays demonstrated creativity, insight, and a deep understanding of Laurens County’s impact on history.
Winners of the Essay Competition:
-1st Place: Malik McCurry, Sanders Middle School
-2nd Place: Winter Young, Sanders Middle School
“We are thrilled to see the creativity and historical insights that our students have showcased through this competition,” said Ernie Segars, Chair of the Laurens County Revolutionary War 250th Sestercentennial Committee. “These projects not only honor our County’s rich Revolutionary War history but also foster a deeper connection between our youth and their heritage.”
The Education Committee served as judges for the essay competition. Cash prizes were awarded to the 1st and 2nd place winners. The winners were selected by a panel of judges and announced at the Revolutionary War Lecture series at The Laurens County Museum.
