biography

Durant Ashmore is a Historical Consultant and Battlefield Preservationist. A lifelong resident of Greenville County, he is a graduate of Greenville High, Furman University, and has a master’s degree in landscape architecture and a graduate minor in historic preservation from the University of Georgia. Durant specializes in the Revolutionary War history of the Ninety-Six District and gives frequent lectures to museums, libraries, and civic groups throughout the Upstate. He conducts Battlefield Walks open to the public regularly to numerous backcountry battlefields - either well-known or little-known - allowing the public to walk in the footsteps where so many heroes fought. Durant is the caretaker and preservationist at six upstate battlefields, including Ft. Lindley, Hammond’s Old Store, and Hayes Station in Laurens County. He is excited to be participating in developing, understanding, and interpreting the rich Revolutionary War history of Laurens County.
